It all started with a phone call. A man urgently seeking a mobility solution reached out on a Friday afternoon. Although it was outside our regular business hours, I didn’t hesitate. I understood just how vital independence is to those facing mobility challenges, so I opened our showroom specifically for him.
When he arrived, he wasn’t alone. Beside him was a friend seated in a power wheelchair. Both were eager but for very different reasons. While the man who called me was there to test our ATTO mobility scooter, his friend remained quietly in the background. Though silent, his gaze never left the demonstration. He watched intently, absorbing every movement, feature, and explanation with laser focus.
As the demo concluded and the first man decided to purchase the ATTO, the quiet observer spoke up, surprising me. “Excuse me, can I buy one too?” he asked, his voice steady and filled with determination.
I paused, momentarily taken aback. The ATTO scooter requires some physical maneuvering, and knowing his condition—he could not use his legs—I felt compelled to ask, “Are you sure you can use it?”

This customer suffers from torsion dystonia, a disease causing uncontrollable contractions in the legs resulting in uncontrollable distortions, leaving the person wheelchair-bound. Using sheer upper body strength and a will that seemed unshakable, he lifted himself out of his wheelchair. He went down to the floor and opened the ATTO, and then he jumped from the floor to the seat of the ATTO. It wasn’t easy, but he tackled it with a determination that left me awestruck. As he settled into the seat, he turned to me and said, “This device will change my life.”
And it did. From that day forward, he began traveling the world—something he once thought impossible.
